A road resurfacing project to upgrade three major roads in Kathu was undertaken by Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen Mine as part of its social labour plan commitments.

This project over a three-month period was to enhance road infrastructure, spanning from Ben Alberts to Frikkie Meyer Street, as well as Karee Avenue. It involved a traffic management plan, inspection and repair of the sub-base, sealing road cracks, fixing potholes, applying of asphalt mix, and the installation of road markings, studs and speedhumps.

The road rehabilitation concluded in November.

George Benjamin, corporate affairs and social performance manager, emphasises the projects’ significance and said these roads are vital traffic arteries. Engaging with the Gamagara Municipality over several months facilitated the necessary arrangements.
