Retail magic and shopping theatre come alive in the new Food Lover’s Market in the Kathu Village Mall.

This world-class store in a 2 463 m2 space was opened on 6 July and offers a premium experience through a dazzling display of fresh food and groceries.

The variety of departments in-store contributes to Food Lover’s Market being the best destination for weekly groceries, meat, products to address health needs and fresh foods.

Synonymous with Food Lover’s Market and its core tenet to be the “best in fresh”, the Kathu store boasts world-class seasonal fruit and vegetables.

Very popular with customers and available at Food Lover’s Market Kathu is a selection of convenient fruit or vegetable pre-packs.

At the gourmet butchery, the expert blockman can advise customers on premium cuts and interesting meal ideas. This butchery is dedicated to delivering a premium meat counter with the feel of a traditional butcher.

The on-site bakery, wine section, fresh seafood department, and cheese and deli counters add to the wide variety of foods on offer.

Hot food offerings include fish and chips, chicken and pies, while health-conscious shoppers can choose from offerings in the health section.

The grab-and-go section includes a sushi counter and a biltong bar.

“Times are tough, and I see it as a massive win if we can offer our customers amazing value and a unique one-stop shopping experience,” says Travis Coppin, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Food Lover’s Market retail division.

“We are passionate about offering an amazing shopping experience through value, range and quality.”

With its 112-strong team, 102 staff members have been recruited locally, Coppin says establishing a great relationship between the team and customers is a big part of that retail magic.

“The team undergoes customer service training programmes to prioritise living the Food Lover’s Market values, the importance of customer service, and understanding all the product lines.”

Logan Govender, who is seasoned in retail, manages the store. He has experience working within the Food Lover’s Market group and previously managed a store in Gauteng.

Children will be delighted by the animatronics dotted around the store, such as a dancing banana at the entrance and a happy doughnut at the doughnut bar.

A speedy checkout process is guaranteed, with 11 till points installed at the exit.

The store will not be affected by load shedding and will remain open.

In June, during an interview with Sake24, Coppin said he believed that the prices of groceries had reached a plateau and that the impact of load shedding, which costs the group approximately R500 000 per day in diesel for generators, is now absorbed in the value chain.

Shopping hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:00, Saturday from 08:00 to 17:00, and Sunday and public holidays from 08:00 to 14:00.

Food Lover’s Market has regular weekly specials that can be accessed online at foodloversmarket.co.za/stores/kathu/

Food Lover’s Market has grown from its origins 30 years ago as a single fruit and vegetable store in Access Park, Cape Town, to South Africa’s largest specialist fresh produce retailer and privately owned family business. Today, the group consists of 110 stores in seven countries across Southern Africa.
