In a recent thrilling rugby showdown under the floodlights at the Kimberley Rugby Club, the women’s rugby team of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) emerged victorious with a hard-fought 12 – 5 win against the formidable Colesberg Queens.
The match earlier in May was a display of grit, determination, and skill as both teams battled it out on the field in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Captain Evelyn Maile led the SPU team which displayed their resilience and teamwork from the kick-off.
The Colesberg Queens, known for their strong defense and attacking prowess, put up a tough fight, making every point hard-earned for the home team.
The first try of the match came from Lindene Kruger, who displayed exceptional speed and agility to evade the opposition’s defense and touch down for SPU. The team’s spirits were lifted, and they continued to press forward, seeking to extend their lead.
The Colesberg Queens, however, were not to be underestimated.
They fought back fiercely, managing to score a try of their own, narrowing the gap between the two teams.
