A total of 63 new police vehicles were handed over to police stations across the Northern Cape on Monday, 13 May.
These vehicles consist of 40 Toyota double cab bakkies and 23 Isuzu 4×4 double cab bakkies, suitable for the working terrain of the province.
Lt Gen. Koliswa Otola, provincial commissioner, reminded police members to utilise the resources responsibly and efficiently, and continue to combat crime through decisive police action and robust community involvement in an effort to bolster operations Shanela and Vala Umgodi.
She reiterated that the South African Police Service (SAPS) will continue to enhance and improve on reaction time of community complaints and visible policing with the consistent focus on keeping the province safe and secure.
The handing over of the vehicles took place at the police’s K9 unit in Kimberley in the presence of district commissioners, provincial heads, and station commanders.
Otola was accompanied by the deputy provincial commissioner for policing, Maj. Gen. Luntu Ngubelanga; the deputy provincial commissioner for corporate services, Maj. Gen. Thabo Mphuthi; and the acting deputy provincial commissioner for crime detection, Maj. Gen. Jacques Raymond.
