The 12 top contestants for the first NC Starlet reality web series competition have been announced.
In this inaugural competition the winner will play a leading role in a short film alongside Fezile Mpela, who is a South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) winning actor, as well as a singer, voice artist, presenter and master of ceremonies.
“Next on the programme for the top 12 is a workshop,” says NC Starlet founder, Evelyn Maruping. “After that the top six will be announced.”
To enter, aspiring actresses aged 18 to 35 had to upload a short self-taped video.
NC Starlet was launched in March in Kimberley during which it was said that the top six will have a life-changing experience and will be introduced to a skills development programme and to the film industry.
The 12 top contestants, in no specific order, are:

Raylene Ganaame,
Keneilwe Reit,
Jaqualine Meas,
Carmen Koloi,
Melisa van Schalkwyk,
Kelebogile Lucas,
Shady Andrews,
Nthabeleng Kgopodithate,
Sharmone Slinger, and
Prudence Hlatshwayo.
The judges for the competition are Funeka Louw (award winning media personality), Jennis Williamson (CEO Talent-Etc), Maruping and Mpela.
The four acting coaches and masterclass facilitators have also been finalised. They are:
Justin Strydom, South African actor, producer, writer and voice artist who has appeared in numerous television shows including Egoli, Generations, Jozi Streets, Scandal! and 7de Laan;
Stephanie Baartman Peterson, best known for her role as Bibi in soapie Getroud Met Rugby;
Hlomla Dandala, South African actor, presenter and director best known for his roles as Zweli on The River and Derek Nyathi in Isidingo The Need; and
Theodore Jantjie, South African actor and director, best known for his role as Xander Meintjies on the SABC2 soap opera 7de Laan.
