Three people died in a helicopter crash in the Northern Cape on Sunday afternoon.

The victims, aged 23 to 34, were killed when their helicopter came down at approximately 12:00 between Daniëlskuil and Kuruman on Sunday, 26 October.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, police spokesperson, said police officers in Daniëlskuil have opened inquest dockets into the deaths.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.

The Civil Aviation Authority will investigate the cause of the crash.

The private Alouette II helicopter crashed into mountainous terrain near Daniëlskuil and caught fire, according to the Aviation Safety Network. All three occupants died and the aircraft was destroyed.
