A sport new to the Northern Cape will be introduced on Saturday (12/03) when the UIPM Laser Run Global City Tour takes place outside Kimberley.

“This is an introduction to the sport and aims to establish a club in the province under the auspices of the South African Modern Pentathlon Association (Sampa),” says Lariza Bredenkamp.

This is the third sport new to the province to be launched since late last year. In October archery was introduced as a school sport at the Du Toitspan Primary School in the city, and air badminton will be launched during the Kalahari Air-Badminton Open Festival at the Kalahari Lodge in Kimberley from 18 to 20 March.

The Lazer Run City Global Tour is a fun event in which athletes shoot at an electronic target with a laser pistol from a distance of 5 m, while running laps of 300 m in between.

No experience is needed, and those who want to participate must bring along running shoes, shorts and a T-shirt or running vest.

The event will be hosted about 12 km outside Kimberley at the Mein Heim Estate Guest Farm, next to the R357 to Douglas.

Registration takes place at 12:00 and racing starts at 14:00. The entry fee is R100 per person and R50 for children under 18. A kids zone, and refreshments for sale, will be available.
