Three learners of the Northern Cape High School in Kimberley excelled in the annual Flamingo Aquatics Gala last week.
Hosted at the Karen Muir Swimming Pool in the city, the event took place from Friday (21/01) to Sunday (23/01).
The swimmers held their own against teams from Jacobsdal, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Kathu, Upington and the Kalahari.
- Chloë Ehlers (17) claimed a gold medal in the 50 m backstroke, 100 m backstroke, 50 m butterfly, 200 m freestyle and 1 500 m freestyle events, as well as a silver medal in the 100 m freestyle event.
- Alisha Stanfley (16) won a silver medal in the 400 m, 800 m and 1 500 m freestyle events, and claimed a bronze medal in the 100 m breaststroke and 200 m individual medley.
- Vasco Theron (15) claimed a gold medal in the 400 m, 800 m and 1 500 m freestyle events, as well as a gold medal in the 200 m butterfly number. He also obtained a bronze medal in the 50 m breaststroke, 100 m breaststroke and 200 m freestyle.
These three swimmers are training to participate in the Northern Cape Sprints Gala, to be held at the Karen Muir Swimming Pool on 4 and 5 February.
