Kudumane Mine recently handed over a fully renovated structure to the Department of Higher Education.

The building, that used to be a traditional council office in Tsineng Village near Kuruman, was officially handed over on 22 July.

After the building was unused for a long time, members of the community approached the mine with an innovative idea of using the structure for educational purposes.

The proposal fell on positiveminded authorities, as Kudumane accepted the request, injected funds to renovate the structure and provided a reliable water system for the structure.

Robbie Phillips, CEO of the Northern Cape CET College, said the structure will be used as a central office for the seven satellite colleges dotted around the area.

“We appreciate the good work done by this mine which enabled us to establish this office in the middle of the community.”

He said the office will cater to the youth, especially those who did not matriculate.

Tebogo Molapo, community liaison officer of the mine, said education remains a priority and where people show the appetite for it, resources ought to be availed to expedite their deserved ambitions.

Tshidiso Trinity Shuping, the chief of Tsineng village, said the step taken by the mine to come to the rescue of the community was an important development in his area.

“Modern life is about education and we cannot escape from poverty without it. Let us encourage children and parents to take education with unreserved determination. We will ensure that this structure remains secure and continues to serve its purpose,” Shuping said.
