As if taking off over the clouds in early autumn, this Impala Mk 1 spreads it wings in the Memorable Order of Tin Hats’ (Moth) Garden of Remembrance in Kimberley. The aircraft was presented by the South African Air Force in recognition of the contribution made by Kimberley to aviation. The country’s first flying school opened in Kimberley in 1913, and the first woman in South Africa to train as a pilot, Maria Bocciarelli, also attended this school.
