A police sergeant of the Kathu Crime Prevention unit once again went the extra mile and sacrificed his personal time in order to render a selfless service to the community.

Sgt Ben Eiman went out of his way to assist members of the community while he was on annual leave last month.

Eiman says being in the police service is not just a job. To him it is a calling to help make the community a better and safer place for all. Being on leave will not deter him in fulfilling the auth he took to protect and serve.

In support of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking that was celebrated on 26 June under the theme: “Better knowledge for better Care”, Eiman addressed a group of rehabilitated substance abusers from the Kathu and the Upington Christian Action for Dependence (CAD) organisation on 30 June in Kathu. He was accompanied by Const. Blythe Jantjes.

The CAD is a dynamic organisation which offers physical, psychological, social and spiritual support to substance dependents and their families.

He talked about the effects drug abuse has on an individual and the impact it has on families, the community and how turning to crime to sustain their habits, breaks a family. He also spoke about the value of life and your choice to stay alive and not to do drugs.

Just days earlier Eiman again placed himself on duty to assist those who needed his help when he assisted a member of Rhino Security on 27 June to recover a Nissan bakkie that was reported stolen in Kathu just hours earlier.

Eiman and Andre Schoeman of Rhino Security in Kathu picked up the tracker signal of the stolen bakkie in the vicinity of Kuruman. They tracked the signal to Magojaneng main road in Mothibistad where the vehicle was stopped. They apprehended and arrested the driver.
