Seven male persons, aged 20 to 50 years, died following a vehicle collision on Sunday, 6 October, at the Modderrivier and Ritchie intersection on the N12, approximately 40 km from Kimberley.

The deceased are all from Ritchie and surrounding areas, and were identified as: Daniel Kula, Willem Kula, Roland Booysen, Elton Geduld, Tshepo Ramakatsa, Quinton Ramakatsa and Dogo Papier.

Lt. Col. Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, said a case of culpable homicide was under investigation after a red Corsa bakkie and a minibus of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) collided. Seven of the bakkie’s eight male occupants died.

The minibus had 15 occupants, who were all discharged from hospital on Monday.
