Riders show skills

The biggest horse show in Kimberley since 2015 took place at the end of July at the Kimberley Equestrian Centre (KEC) outside the city.

A total of 94 competitors with 115 horses entered from across the Northern Cape and Free State.

Katharine Marsden, Northern Cape chair of the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) says that the Core League Qualifier 5 on 30 and 31 July was a compulsory event.

”It was an important component of the selection criteria for the provincial equestrian team which will represent the province at the National Championship in Kyalami in the first week of October.”

Elrico Sesingi, a development rider, won all his classes and received 73% for his dressage test. This was one of the top scores for the entire competition. “We are extremely proud of his hard work and tenacity,” Marsden says.

 The Sanesa Core League disciplines comprise of equitation, show jumping, dressage, dressage freestyle, showing and prix caprilli. The results of the Northern Cape equestrians are as follows:

Equitation:

• Level 3:  80 cm height – Ella Marsden (St Patrick’s CBC High School), 1^st place
• Level 2:  70 cm height – Heleen Botha (Diamantveld High School), 2^nd place
• Level 1:  60 cm height – Helene Wiid (Diamantveld High School), 2^nd place
