The Mediclinic Gariep in Kimberley now boasts a renal unit, catering to chronic and acute patients.

The unit’s opening function on 9 October was attended by a select group of doctors and staff. With the vision of “providing renal dialysis with a difference,” the hospital aims to offer a very specific kind of service to dialysis patients.

This includes patient support, a clinical model, world-class equipment and technology, qualified and dedicated renal staff, and a specialised team of experts.

The unit was created with the Northern Cape and its natural beauty in mind, and privacy for its dialysis patient is provided with screens of nature scenes. It also offers distractions for patients in the form of iPads, allowing them to enjoy the latest offerings on Netflix.

The focus of the unit is to create a centre where all acute and chronic kidney disease-related conditions can be treated and expertly managed within one facility.

Professional nurse Nadema Beyers shows off the dialysis machine to Dr Francois Vorster, general practitioner.
