Earlier his week, dagga worth more than R190 00 was confiscated by the police in two separate incidents in the Upington district.
- On Monday (17/10) the Upington Border Police operationalised intelligence which led to the arrest of two suspects with a dagga consignment worth more than R145 000.
The supects were arrested at approximately 21:30 while on a truck that was en route to Namibia via the N14.
Capt. Olebogeng Tawana, police spokesperson, said according to information received, the two male suspects boarded a truck in Kathu with the dagga concealed in their luggage.
The truck which matched the description in the intelligence received, was pulled over on the N14 and dagga weighing 21,078 kg was found in the luggage of the two suspects.
The suspects will appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on a charge of possession of dagga.
- In another incident on Tuesday (18/10) in Rosedale, Upington, members of the Upington K9 Unit and Highway Patrol clamped down on two suspects for dealing in dagga.
This followed after intelligence was received on drug dealing activities on two separate premises in Rosedale.
The raid was led by Lt. Col Monwabisi Qunta and dagga worth more than R21 000 was found at the first premises, and dagga with an estimated value of R25 000 at the second.
During the operation, the team also conducted static road blocks on the N14 and N10, with the focus to curb illegal transportation of illicit goods, stolen vehicles and stock theft.
Traffic fines amounting to R10 000 were handed out to motorists who contravened the Road Traffic Act; ranging from driving unroadworthy vehicles to driving without a valid driver’s license.
Five undocumented persons were arrested and charged with contravening the Immigration Act.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court soon.
- Also this week, members of the Prieska Visible Policing Unit arrested two suspects for dealing with and being in the possession of crystal meth.
A 39-year-old suspect was arrested in Protea Single, Extension 15.
Another suspect was arrested in Maans Street in Rooiblok.
Both will appear in the Prieska Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs.
The provincial police commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt. Genl Koliswa Otola, commended the police members for apprehending the suspects and for their relentless efforts in eradicating drugs from the streets.
