BLOEMFONTEIN – The police in Bloemfontein have launched a manhunt for a gunman who fatally shot a 44-year-old man on Tuesday, 12 August, at about 07:00. The police have reported that the deceased was in the company of his brother when the unknown suspect fatally shot the deceased.

According to Sgt Sinah Mpakane, spokesperson for the Free State police, the victim and his brother were going to work when the armed suspect fatally shot the victim. She says the victim was declared dead on the scene.

“The two brothers were on their way to work. As they were about to cross a railway line in the East End industrial area, they passed the suspect – an African male wearing a hoodie, standing on the side of the sidewalk. The brothers had just passed the suspect when he started shooting the victim in the back. The suspect continued shooting the victim – twice, while he fell to the ground – before fleeing on foot,” says Mpakane.

The police are appealing to members of the community to assist with helpful information to trace and arrest the suspect. They can contact the investigating officer, Capt. JJ Wilson of the Heidedal Detectives unit, on 082 455 5968 or 061 501 8007, or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
