The Northern Cape Department of Education is busy finalising the placement of unplaced learners who applied during the admission period of 23 May to 20 June.
Noting that many parents have not applied during this period, the department will accommodate them by re-opening its online admission system for late applications.
Van der Merwe said the online applications remains restricted for learners who will be in Gr. R, Gr. 1 and Gr. 8 in 2023.
Applications to any other Grade is done directly at the school of choice.
He said in a press release that the department received 52 280 applications from 20 968 unique learners for Gr. R (18 816), Gr. 1 (5 371) and Gr. 8 (28 093) for 2023.
(This means that more than one application was done for individual learners).
According to Van der Merwe, to date 20 182 learners have been placed, with 786 unplaced learners.
The department therefore remind parents or legal guardians that late applications will only be allowed for schools which have available capacity.
The parents or guardians will immediately receive a placement SMS when the online application is completed.
Parents must log on to the Online Learner Admissions website at ncdoeadmissions.org and follow the process outlined on the system.
