The Mokala National Park, 80 km from Kimberley, is the newest of the South African National Parks (Sanparks). Mokala is a Tswana word for “camelthorn tree”. The park’s landscape varies between koppieveld and large, open plains with isolated dolerite hills, and is situated in the transition zone between the Karoo and Kalahari biomes. The seventh Mokala MTB Classic took place in the park at the beginning of June. Hosted by the Sanparks Honorary Rangers and Sanparks, proceeds of the event will be allocated to conservation projects in Mokala.
