Sr Nisha Muniswamy is this year’s recipient of the Mediclinic Kimberley and Mediclinic Gariep’s Nursing Excellence Award.
According to a statement released by the hospital group, Muniswamy is compassionate and driven to deliver her best.
On International Nurses Day, observed on 12 May, Mediclinic pays homage to nurses. Each year, staff members within each Mediclinic locality select a winner in recognition of their selfless work.
Muniswamy came to South Africa in 2011, leaving behind her husband and baby in India. They were reunited in Kimberley four months later.
In December 2019 she was permanently appointed as a clinical facilitator in the intensive care, high care and emergency unit. She also played a major role in the changes implemented during the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic. She registered as a vaccinator and assisted in vaccinating the public.
Muniswamy receives the award for the care she delivers to patients and the support of her colleagues during an exceptionally challenging era in health care.
- International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth in 1820. Dubbed “the Lady with the Lamp”, she changed the course of modern nursing.
