Teachers in the province were acknowledged at the Northern Cape’s Teaching Awards ceremony, hosted by the Northern Cape Department of Education at the Flamingo Casino in Kimberley on 10 August.
The following teachers received awards:
excellence in Gr. R teaching: Cornelia van Heerden, Andalusia Primary School, Jan Kempdorp;
- excellence in primary school teaching: Nathan Fransman, !Xunkhwesa Combined School, Platfontein;
- excellence in primary school leadership: Masentle Heyns, Logobate Primary School, Mothibistad;
- excellence in secondary school: Boitumelo Mofolo, Wrenchville High School, Kuruman;
- excellence in secondary school leadership: Linda Holm, Kathu High School;
- excellence in Mathematics teaching, GET: Keitumetse Mangate, Thusego Intermediate School, Mothibistad;
- excellence in Mathematics teaching, FET: Nonceba Mafu, Tetlanyo Secondary School, Kimberley;
- excellence in teaching Natural Science: Raymond Mophosho, Kimberley Technical High School;
- excellence in teaching Physical Science: Keaobaka Baikepi, Nametsegang High School, Kuruman;
- excellence in special needs teaching: Maritza Janse van Rensburg, Elizabeth Conradie Special School, Kimberley;
- excellence in special needs leadership: Lebogang Diutlwileng, Retlameleng Special School, Kimberley;
- excellence in Technology enhanced teaching and learning: Palata Moyo, Tetlanyo High School, Kimberley;
- national best teacher award: Thereza Raman, Boesmanland High School, Pofadder; and
- Kader Asmal lifetime achievement award: Hendrik Phillies, Pescodia High School, Kimberley.
Geoffrey van der Merwe, media liaison officer of the MEC, said the winner in each category would represent the Northern Cape at the national awards ceremony held later in the year.
