Lomoteng Mine near Postmasburg have no employees who tested positive for Covid-19.
This comes after it the Minister of Health reported on 14 June that the number of positive cases in this town had jumped to 49 within just 24 hours.
It was later comfirmed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy that of these positive cases, 43 are employees of Lomoteng Mine who tested positive during a pre-work testing session on 10 June.
According to of the mining company Lidino Trading 514 (Pty) Ltd they have no employees who tested positive for the coronavirus.
Zeng Qiang Wu, CEO of the mining company, says since there are positive cases in the surrounding areas and neighbouring mines, they contacted a lab in Kimberley to conduct tests of the whole workforce.
This lab reported 43 of the employees tested Covid-19 positive.
“The employees who tested positive were classified as suspected positives and we immediately decided to stop the whole mining operation and informed all employees to stay at home.”
Wu says the Department of Health sent a mobile testing station to the mine with a repeat test which was conducted nasally to verify the previous testing results, which were conducted orally by Lancet.
“The results of all the tests conducted have come back negative. Thus, we have no employees who tested positive for Covid-19,” says Wu.
