A total of 23 brand new police vehicles were handed over to station commanders from across the Northern Cape.

The provincial commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen. Koliswa Otola, accompanied by the deputy provincial commissioner for policing, Maj. Gen. Luntu Ngubelanga, handed over the vehicles recently.

Lt Col Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, said Otola reiterated that the vehicles should be used optimally and professionally to maximize its use, to improve service delivery to communities, and to bolster the capabilities of the organisation.

Otola promised that the Toyota Hilux bakkies will be patrolling the streets during operations planned for this festive season to ensure more boots on the ground, to enhance police visibility, and fight crime effectively and efficiently.

This week, the police will host passing-out parades for 10 000 newly trained police officers.

Brig. Athlenda Mathe, police spokesperson, said these parades will be held over three days, from Tuesday, 13 December, to Thursday, 15 December, in five provinces.

Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa will officiate proceedings at the Tshwane Police Academy where 2 938 newly-trained police officers will stand on parade.

Similar parades will take place at the SA Army Base of the 3 SA Infantry Battalion in Kimberley, and also at the Bisho Police Academy and Graaff-Reinet Police Academy, both in the Eastern Cape; at the Oudtshoorn Police Academy and Paarl Police Academy in the Western Cape; and at the Ulundi Police Academy and the Chatsworth Police Academy in KwaZulu-Natal.

There were 23 police vehicles handed over to police station commanders from all over the Northern Cape.
