The 43-year-old driver of a VW Polo was arrested at the checkpoint and charged for dealing in drugs. He will be appearing in court soon.

Sgt Omphile Masegela, media liaison officer of the police in Upington, said information was received soon after that another vehicle was allegedly transporting drugs to Upington.

A follow-up ensued and dagga with the estimated value of R214 450 was found abandoned a few kilometers out of town.

No arrests were made in this case.

Masegela said in another case, members of the Upington Border Police unit were busy with high density patrols when they spotted a suspicious vehicle that was driving recklessly.

The members subsequently stopped and searched the vehicle with two male occupants.

Dagga of 2 048 kg and an estimated value of R51 200, as well as 200 mandrax tablets with the value of R20 000, were found.

Two Nigerian nationals, aged 37 and 39 years respectively, are detained for dealing in drugs.

The Opel Corsa the two were travelling in was seized as it was used in the commission of this crime.

High density patrols executed in the Pixley Ka Seme District yielded more drug successes.

Lt. Col Sergio, police spokesperson, said on Tuesday, 21 March, at 23:10 police members in Colesberg were busy conducting blue light patrols on the N1 when they spotted a suspicious white Mercedes-Benz with five male occupants.

After the vehicle sped off from a Caltex garage, police gave chase and flagged them down just outside Colesberg.

Kock said the vehicle was searched and dagga with an estimated street value of R35 000 was found concealed in the vehicle.

One South African and four foreign national males were arrested and charged for possession of dagga.

Meanwhile, in a seperate incident in Hopetown, police raided a house in 7de Laan and seized 38 ziplock plastic bags of dagga, as well as loose dagga, at the premises.

One male was arrested and charged with possession of dagga.

The police in the province will continue to vigorously clamp down on drug trafficking, squeezing the space for drug dealers to operate, Kock said.
