In the international virtual championship, Northern Cape archers won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals while competing against teams in South Africa, as well as teams from Namibia and Canada.
A total of 47 archers gathered in the Du Toitspan Primary School’s hall in Kimberley on 23 April. The event was attended by family and other spectators.
“The archers of Africa Genesis Archery Northern Cape NPC (AGA-NC) did us proud in showing great sportsmanship, discipline and bravery,” says Schalk van der Merwe, coordinator of the AGA-NC.
He says it has been exciting to establish archery as a sport and social recreational activity since the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture initiated the sponsoring of archery equipment to the Du Toitspan Primary School in October 2021. Since then the membership has grown to close to 60, representing males and females in various age groups.
