The Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nontobeko Vilakazi, has expressed her satisfaction with the manner in which Sishen Mine responded to the Covid-19 outbreak and governments’ regulations to curb the spread thereof.
The mine received an unannounced visit from Vilakazi and delegates on 13 May. This included the viewing of screening and testing facilities, as well as the measures the mine has put in place to minimise the spread of Covid-19.
During the visit the mine donated 40 branded face masks and 40 thermometers to the MEC and her delegation.
Marinus Hanekom, manager for safety, health and environment, showed the visitors around, demonstrating the mine’s screening facilities and elaborating on the Covid-19 training and awareness that the mine had been driving since the virus was declared a global pandemic.
André Roux, general manager, thanked all employees for their commitment to mitigating the spread of Covid-19.
“The safety, health and wellbeing of our employees and contractors are of utmost importance to us and we will do everything in our power to ensure that they return home safely and healthy every day.”
