To enhance Mathematics education for Gr. 5 and Gr. 6 learners at the Postdene Primary School in Postmasburg, the Nuberry Iron Ore Mine partnered with the My Maths Buddy One Book One Learner Project.
This is an initiative of the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) to assist these learners for the remainder of 2023.
While Gr. 6 learners continued their progress with the My Maths Buddy programme from last year, the Gr. 5 learners began their journey.
The feedback from the learners is overwhelmingly positive.
“Maths is becoming my favourite subject,” one learner said.
Another learner said, “I feel awesome because I learned how to use the My Maths Buddy Dictionary and how important Maths is. I enjoy it when they explain the meaning of words to me.”
In addition to the initial learner workshops, the project conducted Amazing Maths Words workshops specifically for Gr. 6 learners to reinforce the use of the My Maths Buddy Dictionary and enhance understanding of basic Maths terminology.
As a result, Postdene has already begun to show improved results in Maths across these grades.
