A man from Tsineng village who raped a 13-year-old girl after luring her to his home, was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by the Kuruman Regional Court.

Daniel Baathlodi (52) was sentenced on two counts of rape for raping the child on two separate occasions. Brig. Mohale Ramatseba, police spokesman, says the first incident occurred in September 2015.

Baathlodi, who lived near the child’s home, called the girl to his house while she was playing with her friends in the street.

When she arrived at his residence, he forced her to his bedroom and raped her.

Thereafter, he threatened her to harm her if she told anyone what happened.

Ramatseba says the matter was reported to the police and he was immediately arrested.

On 19 September 2015 he was released on bail.

The second incident happened in April 2019.

Baathlodi asked the girl to bring a phone charger to his home.

He used a bandage to tie her up and then raped her.

He was arrested that same day. His bail application was refused and he remained in custody until his sentencing on 8 June.

Ramatseba says Sgt Kenalemang Babeile, the investigating officer, was commended by the provincial FCS Commander.

The JTG Cluster Commander, Maj.Genl. Johan Bean, applauded the Department of Justice and NPA for working with Babeile and insuring that Baathlodi was removed from society

Bean urged parents to look after their children at all times.
