Contrary to popular belief, Long Street in Kimberley is not the longest street in the Northern Cape capital.

This street was named after a former mayor of Kimberley, B.K. Long.

The longest street is Transvaal Road, while Memorial Road is also known for its length.

Long Street, one of the oldest streets in Kimberley, is steeped in history. In years gone by, a large portion on both sides of the street was a residential area. Today it is a bustling street, housing many businesses and modern buildings.

Long Street is also home to the microwave tower, one of the tallest structures and most iconic features of the Diamond City’s skyline. Constructed in the 1980s, this tower has become one of the most recognisable features of the city.

Long Street stretches through a big part of the city and connects the N8 and the N12.
