The article “What has been destroyed cannot be undone” by Steve Lundstedt, which appeared in the NoordkaapBulletin on Thursday (29/09), must be the saddest and most devasting read for everyone who loves Kimberley and its wonderful history.
It is a serious indictment on all the citizens of this city – the (so-called) capital of the Northern Cape.
Not for one minute do I doubt the accuracy of the detail of all that has been destroyed. Steve Lunderstedt is well-known for his love of history, Kimberley, and the battlefields; historians do not make mistakes.
When will the destruction stop?
Maybe never.
Maybe someday . . . I don’t know.
It is more and more difficult to keep on hoping that our city will again be the “City that Sparkles”.
