Water tanks will be placed at various points in Kimberley, while roving water tankers will also be present during the upcoming five-day water supply interruption in Kimberley, which will be effected from Thursday, 4 April, until Monday, 8 April.
With the scope of the work carried out in this time frame, the Sol Plaatje Municipality aims for the nightly water supply interruptions in the city to come to an end.
During the upcoming water shutdown, water losses emanating from major leaks on the bulk pipeline will be addressed, stated Thabo Mothibi, communications manager at the municipality.
At Midstation, Roodepan, a gasket on the 990 mm diameter butterfly valve started leaking in mid-December. Extensive draining of this bulk pipeline will stretch over two days, whilst the actual repair at Midstation will last an estimated eight hours.
Other maintenance and repair work will make up the time frame until 8 April.
Parallel with this, critical work continues at the old and new Riverton Water Treatment Plants to improve water production.
The municipality also appeals to residents to be wary of misinformation being peddled through voice notes, and to rely on information from official municipal sources.
