The Sol Plaatje municipality ask residents of Kimberley to bear with them because this is an emergency that no one expected. The rising levels in the Vaal River at Rivertin makes the access to pump station difficult.

Kimberley residents are urged to use water sparingly because of the  problems with water purification in Riverton for the past two days.

The water supply distribution is as follows:

Water supply points are available at Henco Dairy.

Water supply is being arranged for Pick and Pay circle in Galeshewe.

Roodepan police station will have Jojo tanks.

According to Thoko Riet, municipal spokesperson for the Sol Plaatje municipality “trucks and tankers, with the minimum we have, is roaming as it was since yesterday. We are doing all we can to supply water with the resources we have. For those that can, Newton resevoir also has a point where water is supplied. Please bear with us, this an emergency that none of us expected. The rising water levels in the Vaal River, at Rivertin makes access to the pump station difficult.

“We have three motors at the workshop since last night , and the service provider is working around the  clock to get them ready for installation as soon as practically possible.”

While removing a faulty pump and a motor there was a malfunction on one of the valves. This led to the flooding of the pumps and motors on the abstraction side. Unfortunately  to get the pumps back in operation the motors and cables had to be removed and tested at the workshop for possible water ingress.
