The John Taolo Gaetsewe Top 8 Development Football Tournament was held from 27 to 29 April at the Wrenchville sports grounds in Kuruman.
Soccer teams from across the region went head-to-head to be crowned winner of the tournament.
Northern Delights FC and Gladiators FC played to a draw of 4 – 4. The game went into penalties and Northern Delights won on 4 penalties to 2 against the Gladiators.
The second game, between Kuruman Scorpions and Black Consciousness, ended in a 2 – 2 draw.
Black Consciousness won with 2 – 0 when the game went into penalties. The goalkeeper of Black Consciousness denied Kuruman Scorpions any goals.
The Juve Football Academy and Juventus FC (the host team) played it out on the field and the Academy won the game with 3 – 0.
The game between these two was electric, but Juventus could not get the ball inside the net.
The final four teams battled it out on Sunday (29/04).
Bombers FC and Northern Delights went into a draw of 2 – 2 and the Northerns won. They received third place in the tournament.
Black Consciousness and the Academy went to the finals. The boys showed great discipline and played quality football.
The Academy won the tournament with 3 – 1.
The coaches and organisers are looking forward to next year’s tournament.
In the meantime they will improve on mistakes and prepare for the big event next year.
