Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge denies that he sent sexually explicit pictures of himself to Andiswa Mengo, judges’ secretary at the Eastern Cape High Court in November 2022.
Selby is giving his side of the story at a Judicial Conduct Tribunal Hearing in Sandton, Johannesburg, after Mengo accused him of sexual harassment.
Mengo testified that Mbenenge solicited oral sex from her and sent a picture of his private parts to her on WhatsApp.
“I look at it (this complaint) as a campaign to shame me. It is lies. It never happened. The complainant knows as much as me that it never took place,” Mbenenge said on Monday.
“Nothing of this sort happenend and yet this has brought (me) much pain. I do not mind being accused of things that I did, but not things that I did not do. This goes for the incident of 14 and 15 November 2022 and the pictures of the private parts that I’m said to have sent to the complainant, which is a lie.”
Earlier in his testimony Mbenenge said that he sent “flirtatious” messages to Mengo because he wasnovuinterested in having a relationship with her, but denies any wrongdoing.
The tribunal continues until 11 July 2025.
