The Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Kimberley is aware of an incident that took place on Friday (21/04), involving two of its students.
In a statement from the university, Qondakele Sompondo, directo for Institutional Advancement, said it is alleged that a fourth-year male student assaulted a first-year female student at a residence on campus.
“The university wishes to put on record that it does not tolerate violent or criminal behaviour by its staff and students.
“The university is aware that the incident was reported to the law enforcement agencies and the alleged perpetrator has been arrested,” the statement read.
In the interim, The university has instituted an investigation into the matter and will follow its disciplinary procedures and protocols.
The alleged perpetrator will be temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure, until the investigation has been finalised.
SPU is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its community and vehemently condemns any form of violence, harassment, intimidation and misconduct of students and staff.
