In an effort to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen Mine, in partnership with local stakeholders, committed to distributing 42 000 hygiene packs to communities in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
Altogether 1 550 packs were distributed in Deben, Gasegonyana, Bankhara Bodulong, Maruping, Dikgweng and Mapoteng on 26 May.
This initiative is part of Kumba’s WeCare programme that is aimed at protecting people’s safety, health and wellbeing.
Lihle Sibiya, Sishen mine’s manager for Public Affairs, says Kumba believes that the hygiene packs containing bleach, sanitiser, two thermometers and antibacterial soaps will help people to safeguard their lives as well as fight the spread of COVID-19.
“As the country and the world is adapting to the new ways of living it is very significant that we take care of our host communities to ensure they remain sustainable even beyond the pandemic,” says Sibiya.
