In a recent thrilling encounter at the Kimberley Rugby Club, the Griquas’ women’s team emerged victorious over the Pumas women with a final score of 27 – 14.

The match, which took place on 15 June, showcased the talent and determination of both sides as they battled it out on the field.

From the kickoff it was clear that fans were in for an action-packed game.

The Griquas wasted no time in making their mark, with Maxine Engelbrecht, Mekayla Bennette, Lauren Januarie, Winandre Onke, and Chamelle Visagie all crossing the try line to secure a well-deserved victory for their team.

The Pumas however, put up a strong fight throughout the game, with Silindile Nyembe and Chantelle Mtsweni scoring tries of their own. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to overcome the relentless attack of the Griquas side.

Juanine Jacobs proved to be a key player for Griquas, showcasing her skill with a successful conversion. On the Pumas side, Nyembe displayed her kicking prowess with two successful conversions, adding valuable points to her team’s score.

The atmosphere at the club was electric, with fans cheering on their favorite players and showing their support for women’s rugby.

Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and determination, making for an exciting and memorable match.

As the final whistle blew, it was clear that the Griquas had emerged victorious, showcasing their talent and teamwork on the field. The Pumas fought hard until the end, demonstrating their resilience and skill in a hard-fought battle.

In addition to the thrilling match, the game also marked the debut of three promising players for the Griquas team. Charity Maswabi, Crystal Francis, and Lindene Kruger made their first appearances on the field, demonstrating their potential and adding depth to the team’s roster. Their contributions did not go unnoticed, as they each showed skill and determination throughout the game.

Furthermore, assistant coach Claudia Francke played a crucial role in guiding and supporting the team to victory. Her strategic insights and leadership behind the scenes undoubtedly played a part in the team’s success on the field.

The Griquas triumph over the Pumas was not just a win on the scoreboard, but a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the entire squad.

As they continue their journey in the first division, the Griquas women’s team will surely build on this victory and strive for even greater achievements in the future.
