The mountain bike events of the recent Kelrn MTB Classic were dominated by the Day brothers from the North West province.

Taking part in this annual event at the Holsdam Farm in the Barkly West area, Tyler Day was first to cross the finishing line in the 60 km men’s cycle event that took place on 29 October.

Less than a second later, his brother Dusty also crossed the finishing line. Jaco Lombard was in third place.

Tania Visser was the women’s 60 km category winner, with Johanet Heyman finishing second and Karin Erasmus third.

Dave Duffy attained first place in the men’s master event for participants 60 years and older.

In the 30 km cycle event, Wyatt Botes was first in the men’s category, Johan Grobbelaar second and Jaydon Pretorius third.

In this event’s category for women, Henriëtte van Niekerk was first, Ronel Markham second, and Rencia van Blerk third.

In the men’s masters category, Marius van Blerk was first in the 30 km event.

On 30 October, Dusty Day won the 35 km cycle event, with his brother Tyler in second place, and Wyatt Botes third.

Karin Erasmus won the women’s category in this 35 km race, with Naomi de Wet placing second and Rintie Uys third.

During this weekend, when 423 cyclists competed in several mountain bike events in different age and distance categories, a trail and fun run was also held with 143 registered participants.

In the 12 km trail run Joseph Molefi was first to finish, followed by Simon Pieterse then Pieter Lategan.

Denice Thomas won this event’s category for women, with Nadine Dames coming second and Charmaine Ras third.

Kelrn hosts this event in support of organisations such as Reach for a Dream, Makarios, Jannie Roux Campus, Christina Kiddie, and Caritas Community Focus.
