With a love for mathematics, Kimberly resident Tshepang Mabogo is on her way to achieving her dreams of becoming an engineer, having recently graduated with a national diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
As a recipient of the Matla A Bokone Solar scholarship since 2022, Mabogo is continuing her academic journey by pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering degree at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State.
Mabogo, now a third-year student, said she always wanted her work to produce something tangible and to have outcomes that could be observed and help to solve problems.
“Engineering seemed like the best way to combine the fundamentally logical and analytical aspects of mathematics I loved, while maintaining a firm grasp on reality and real-life solutions.”
Established four years ago, the scholarship programme supports and impacts students from Riverton, Barkly West, Kimberley Central, Boshof, Delportshoop, Galeshewe, Greenpoint, Holpan, Platfontein, Ritchie, Roodepan, and Windsorton communities.
The programme specifically targets learners within a 50 km radius of the solar plant, providing them with the necessary financial and academic resources to help further their education.
“Receiving this bursary has been the best thing. Not only has it assisted me financially, but it has also helped me see my potential and brings me closer to achieving my dreams,” added Mabogo.
Looking ahead, she is focused on completing her degree and securing a stable job through which she can continue to assist and inspire those around her.
“We are incredibly proud of Tshepang’s accomplishments and her unwavering dedication to her studies. Her success is a shining example of the positive impact our programme has on the lives of young individuals in our community,” said Lesego Mosiane, community liaison officer for Matla A Bokone Solar, funders of this programme.
“We remain committed to supporting her and other learners as they strive to achieve their dreams.”
The aforementioned support includes tuition, accommodation, stationery, stipends, textbooks, a laptop, administration fees, disbursement costs, and wrap-around support.
