More than 120 tour guides in the Northern Cape have received relief funding from the national Department of Tourism.
Tourism minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, has announced a fund of R30 million to benefit tour guides who were hit hard by the close of the industry during lockdown.
The relief, which will be provided over a period of two to three months, will assist registered tour guides. These include freelancers and independent guides.
The minister announced this during a virtual media briefing on tourism-related activities under Risk Adjusted Level 3 at the end of July.
Kubayi-Ngubane invited input from all stakeholders and the public on the draft Tourism Recovery Plan before it is submitted to cabinet.
The window for input started on 1 August and can be submitted until Saturday (15/08) at recovery@tourism.gov.za.
