The Frances Baard women’s rugby team, under coach Claudia Francke, was crowned as the winners of the recent women’s rugby regional tournament held in Kimberley.
At this event, hosted by the Frances Baard Rugby Region at the Suzuki Stadium on 17 May, Laurian Johannes-Haupt was the guest of honour. She is SA Rugby’s first full-time female coach at national level.
Not only did the event celebrate the growth and development of women’s rugby in the Northern Cape, it brought together regional teams to compete for the 2025 Griquas Regional Champions title.

After the event, Johannes-Haupt posted on Facebook that it was a day filled with thrilling rugby action and an outstanding showcase of talent.
“It was truly inspiring to witness the dedication of the players and their coaching staff, as well as the groundwork invested in creating meaningful platforms for the growth of women’s rugby. The commitment to developing and nurturing talent within the Northern Cape is deeply commendable.”
She congratulated all regions and teams.
