The trial of four men accused of sexually assaulting a child in June 2020, when the child was seven years old, has been delayed by the Magistrates’ Court seating in Kimberley on Thursday, 3 March.
The trial was to commence in the Kimberley Sexual Offences Court.
The four accused, which include the stepfather of the victim, were arrested at a farm near Kimberley after a case was opened with the police. Three of the accused, who are family members, were arrested immediately. The fourth suspect was arrested after a year-long search undertaken by the SAPS tracing team.
Since they were detained, the accused have been incarcerated, said Mojalefa Senokoatsane, communications manager of the National Prosecution Authority. They are scheduled to be in court for the setting of a new trial date.
