Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were encouraged to participate in sport.
At the prize-giving event of the 31st edition of the police’s National Freshwater Bank Angling Championships at the Gariep Dam, the provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola, congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to influence other members to participate in sports as it is essential to their health.
This event, which took place from 24 to 26 October, is an annual event in the police force, and this year it was hosted by the Northern Cape.
It was attended by police anglers from the nine provinces, as well as a team from head office in Pretoria.
In the men’s category, WO W. Fouché from the Free State is the winner, with Col M.J. Bornman from head office in the second place, and WO M.P. Fourie from Mpumalanga placing third.
In the women’s category, Lt. Col A. Prinsloo from Gauteng placed first, followed by administration clerk M. Nel from the Western Cape, and WO S. van Wyk from Gauteng third.
In the category for anglers with a disability, Lt. Col D. Steyn from Gauteng is the champion, followed by WO DJ van der Merwe, also from Gauteng, and WO R.J. Pain from the Northern Cape third. In the group category, head office was first, the team from the Free State second, and the Northern Cape third.
