The first edition of the Sungazer 100 Miler saw cyclers of amongst others the Northern Cape and Free State conquering the distance of 160 km as solo riders, or in teams of two or four completing a 80 km or 40 km distance.
This event hosted by the Kimberley-based Oryx Endurance Event Management commenced and ended at Tiffany’s in Bloemfontein on 1 June.
In the solo category, Gideon Geldenhuys was the overall men’s winner in 05:08:59. Carla Oberholzer was the overall women’s winner, and second overall in 05:17:50.
After the event, Oberholzer thanked Oryx Endurance for a “gritty introduction to this exciting discipline”.
Alwyn Dippenaar ended second in the men’s category (05:25:11) and Jean Fourie third (05:25:16).
Rizta Fouché was the second woman to cross the finishing line (05:56:08), and Maude Elaine le Roux was the third woman overall (06:02:37).
Team Enduro Planet was the winning team (05:46:28); with Races Faces second (05:46:36) and Philippolisers third (06:04:50).
- The next event presented by Oryx Endurance is the second edition of the Ride2TheKaroo 100 Miler on 31 August. It commences at John Dory’s in Kimberley and ends after 166 km on mostly gravel roads and over hills at the Klipkraal Guest Farm outside Hopetown.
