After many years, rugby as a school sport can now be revived and supported at the Floors High School in Kimberley thanks to the involvement of sporting bodies and a rugby kit donation.
The chairperson of the Frances Baard Rugby Region, Romeo Syfers, as well as the chairperson of the Universal Rugby Football Club (RFC), Jerome Voight, handed over the kit on Tuesday, 26 March, to the principal, Roy Fredericks.
Syfers said the rugby team will take part in the Vuka League, and the involvement of the relevant rugby region and football club will make a meaningful difference in the lives of these boys, and help in the creation of a more vibrant and diverse rugby community.
“It is inspiring to see individuals and organisations coming together to support the growth of sports at grassroots level,” he said.
The donation not only provides essential equipment to underprivileged boys who are new to the game of rugby but eager to participate and learn more, but also demonstrates a commitment to nurturing grassroots sports development and fostering a love for the sport at a young age.
Furthermore, the youngsters are not just receiving the means to play rugby.
Instead, the are also introduced to the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, with the aim of ultimately instilling these values into the players into effect.
This will positively impact their lives on and off the field.
“Initiatives like this play a vital role in creating opportunities for aspiring athletes and promoting inclusivity in sports,” Syfers concluded.
