From the starting line to the finish, every pedal stroke against the cold wind was a testament to the determination and the thrill of conquering 100 miles in the mesmerising yet chilly landscape.

This remark was made by Kobus Burger of Oryx Endurance Event Management, which presented the inaugural Ride2TheKaroo 100 Miler between Kimberley and Klipkraal at Hopetown on Saturday (26/08).

Burger said the camaraderie among fellow cyclists, the cheers from the sidelines, and the triumphant feeling of crossing the finishing line, all while battling the elements, contributed to the unique spirit of this event.

In the men’s category, Dusty Day was the first to cross the finishing line in 6:39:54. In second place was Izak Strauss (6:39:56), and in third place Philo Nel (6:57:53).

In the women’s category, winner Johanet Heymann crossed the finishing line in 7:21:34. Angelique Nel was second (7:44:52), and Madeleine Pieterse third (8:42:16).

In the relay team category, team Trek Saam, comprising Hennie Burger and Stoffel van der Westhuizen, ended first in 7:03:09.

The second team was Oryx Endurance in 7:21:33, with Jayden Pretorius and Ruan Venter as the team members. Team Fast and Furious, with Thea Cilliers, Carli Bouwer, Michaela Mitchley and Adriaan Botha, ended third in 8:04:02.

Burger previously said that Oryx Endurance Event Management strives to deliver safe and unforgettable experiences for participants.

Many of its cycling events are also perfect for the whole family.

Mountain biking is an exhilarating sport that demands a combination of physical strength, technical skill, and mental focus. In its monthly newsletter, Oryx Endurance gives tips on how to unlock your full potential as a mountain biker.

This includes visualising success, embracing fear and turning it into fuel, staying present and focused, using positive self-talk, and breaking down challenges.

Its next event is the Battle of the Bikes on Saturday, 7 October.

It commences at 07:00 from the Landboudal High School in Jacobsdal.

From there the route traverses the historical battle fields between Kimberley and Bloemfontein, providing a platform where professional riders can challenge one another. However, it also caters for those who are enthusiastic, hobbyist riders.
