The rugby team of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) has emerged as the Frances Baard regional league winners against last year’s champions, the Kimberley Rugby Club (KRC), by beating them 36 – 26.

This regional league final took place on Saturday, 15 June, at the KRC’s field in Diamond Park, preceded by other matches.

In the Frances Baard Region’s third place play-off, the Hartswater Rugby Club claimed a victory over the Prieska Rugby Club with a final score of 55 – 26.

In the third place play-off, Hartswater rose to the occasion, claiming a resounding victory over Prieska, capping off a remarkable display of skill and determination.

The standout performance of the match came from Kevin Swiegers, the man of the match from Hartswater, whose exceptional contributions on the field solidified his status as a true rugby star.

However, amidst the celebrations, there was a bittersweet farewell as Burger Sandenbergh, a legend in the Prieska Rugby Club, bid adieu to his illustrious career in a match that did not unfold as he had hoped.
