Approximately 2 000 high school learners in Gr. 9 and Gr. 12, from 11 high schools in Prieska, De Aar and surroundings, attended the recent Pixley Ka Seme annual career exhibition.
The exhibition, held in the town hall in De Aar on 6 August, was presented by Mulilo Social Impact, in collaboration with Amasa Academy.
It empowers young individuals, specifically Gr. 9 and Gr.1 2 learners, by equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to make informed, realistic, and meaningful decisions about their educational and career journeys.
Learners in Gr.9 were invited as they are in the process of subject selection, while Gr. 12s could explore post-school opportunities. South African youths who are not in employment, education, or training were also included to ensure broader access to career development resources to shape their futures.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of their personal interests, strengths, values, and opportunities available within the evolving world of work.
They were empowered through career guidance, employment opportunities, and sector engagement.

The exhibition offered a dynamic space for tertiary institutions, government agencies, private enterprises, and social partners to present career pathways, funding opportunities, and mentorship programmes.
Stakeholders provide valuable insights
Around 35 organisations of key sectors โ including banking, government, higher education, independent power producers, safety and security, as well as engineering โ participated in the event.
These stakeholders provided valuable insights into available bursaries, career opportunities, internships, and pathways for further education and employment, helping to broaden attendees’ understanding of the professional landscape.
Mulilo Social Impact, in partnership with the Mulilo Community Trusts, which include the Mulilo Prieska Community Trust, Mulilo De Aar Wind Community Trust, and Mulilo Solar Community Trusts, enabled Amasa Academy to deliver conversations around subject selection and post-matric study options.
Amasa Academy is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that supports high school learners through free tutoring, outreach programmes, motivational speaking, and career development initiatives.
