In honour of Mandela Day, the spirit of spreading some Madiba Magic, members of the police in Kathu spent their 67 minutes with an elderly rape victim.
The face of a blind 74-year-old woman from Siyathemba lit up when officers of the Kathu Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) showed up at her doorstep on Saturday (18/07).
Col Mashay Gamieldien, police spokesperson, says Capt. Maryna Boyder, station commander of the Siyathemba SAPS, accompanied by WO Jonathan Letimela, Kathu FCS unit commander, and members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), visited the woman at her home. She was sexually assaulted in June.
In addition to donating a food parcel, warm clothing and blankets that were generously donated by police and CPF members, officers of the Siyathemba Police Station also pampered her with a manicure and pedicure and washed her laundry.
Gamieldien says members of the FCS and SAPS in Kathu answered the call, acted, and inspired change.
“We will make every day Mandela Day for victims of gender-based violence.”
