The deputy junior police commissioner for Corporate Services in the Northern Cape, Simoné van Rooyen, visited the Roodepan Primary School in Kimberley earlier in June, accompanied by the junior visible policing commander for Roodepan, Rougracia Fisher, and the junior detective commander for Roodepan, Perpetua Morgan, who are all Gr. 11 learners at the Pescodia High School in Roodepan. They were accompanied by the Roodepan Social Crime Prevention unit, safety volunteers, and representatives of the Department of Education and Social Development. The team addressed 956 learners under the Youth Month theme, “Actively embracing the socio-economic gains of our democracy”. The learners were informed about general and cyber bullying, sexual offences, social ills, and discipline. They were reminded of basic safety hints to adhere to at school and during the school holidays and beyond. They were entertained by the police’s provincial band and received flyers with safety hints and other marketing materials. Simoné also reminded the learners to break the silence on crime and call the police on 08600-1011, the Childline on 0800-055-555, or the Department of Social Development’s Command Centre on 0800-428-428.Photo: Supplied
