Three men were arrested in Postmasburg for being in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R1,5 million.
This follows a disruptive operation in the early hours of Saturday, 8 June, as part of the illicit mining Operation Vala Umgodi, which was conducted in Boitshoko, Postdene, Maranteng, Newtown, Greenfield, and Carnation in Postmasburg.
The operation followed after information had been gathered on suspected illicit drug dealing in the area, said Sgt Molefi Shemani of the Northern Cape media centre.
Shemani said the team arrested three male suspects.
Two of the suspects, aged 24 and 36 years, were arrested for possession of drugs, while the 40-year-old suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen property and drugs.
Apart from the drugs worth approximately R1,5 million, money believed to be the proceeds of crime was also seized.
Uniforms, believed to be that of law enforcement agencies, were also recovered and confiscated.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
Shemani emphasised that Operation Vala Umgodi’s disruptive actions would continue to address illicit mining and related crimes throughout the province.
